The Master of Science in Nursing salary

An online Master of Science in Nursing degree program is a concentrated program designed to help registered nurses prepare for advancement into leadership roles. During an on-campus or online MSN, nurses are expected to learn skills relevant for positions in clinical managerial or assist administration roles. Online programs typically take between 18 months and two years to complete and many offer flexibility.

In many cases, the added responsibilities of advanced-practice nursing disciplines also come with correspondingly higher salary potential. Wages can vary by nursing specialty, professional experience, and specifics of the hospitals, clinics or physicians' offices where MSNs are employed. Salaries also tend to be higher on the East Coast and West Coast of the United States. Specialties undertaken at the online MSN level include:

    •   Certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA)
    •   Nurse practitioner (NP)
    •   Certified nurse midwife (CNM)
    •   Clinical nurse specialist (CNS)
